Farm Animal Veterinary Society (FAVS)

 

 

Welcome to the Farm Animal Veterinary Society!

We are a bunch of farm animal enthusiasts who hold talks, practicals and a yearly symposium about all things farm! Everyone from every course and with every level of experience is welcome – we are here to increase your confidence and knowledge of the farm species plus offer experiences in farming, farm practice and research!

We have lots of fun things planned for this year, including our much-loved Farm Walk & Talks, Calf Club, League of Lambs (all at Boltons Park Farm), Our annual Symposium & MUCH MORE!


Membership gives you access to our Calf club, League of Lambs, Farm Walk and Talks, as well as discounted prices on any external speakers we have come in and symposium tickets. It also gives you access to National FAVS which posts placements, job advertisements and the opportunity of attending national FAVS congress!

INFORMATION FOR CALF CLUB

When?

4pm on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays, at Boltons Park Farm.

Help with various jobs depending on what needs doing, along with calf feeding.


How does it work?

  • Sign up via the SU page. You'll receive an email confirming if you got a spot and when.

  • If you don't receive a confirmation email, you sadly haven't got a spot.

Travelling to Boltons Park Farm

  • If you're travelling from Camden Campus, please get the train from King's Cross to Potters Bar.

  • From Potters Bar train station we recommend catching the 15:30 shuttle bus to make it with plenty of time onto the farm to get ready. You'll have to ask the bus driver to stop at the farm, as it is a request stop.

  • If you're travelling from Hawkshead Campus, we recommend you get the 15:40 bus.

Once at the farm

  • Go to the old (dairy) boot room, the one to your right when arriving at the farm.

  • At 4pm, one of the farm staff will meet you outside of the boot room on the farm (dirty) side. DON'T BE LATE, as the staff will not be about to meet you if you are.

  • Any issues or if you can no longer make it, please email sufavs@rvc.ac.uk


PPE:

  • Waterproof top and trousers

  • Wellies

These must be clean.

Nurses and Bioscience students: We're trying to sort out an arrangement for waterproofs for you to borrow. For now, please email us if you need a hand finding PPE and we'll help where we can.
