RVC Dermatology Club

Whether you already know that dermatology is the career for you, want to feel more confident managing skin cases in general practice, or simply enjoy looking at unusual lesions, the RVC Dermatology Club would love to have you join us!

We are a welcoming society for students from all year groups and levels of experience. No previous dermatology knowledge is required. Our aim is to make veterinary dermatology practical, approachable and enjoyable while giving students opportunities to learn from specialists, residents, clinicians and other professionals working within the field.

Dermatological conditions make up a significant proportion of small-animal consultations, so the skills covered through the club will be useful whether you are interested in general practice, emergency work, pathology, research or specialist training.

Throughout the year, we plan to organise a mixture of talks, practical sessions and social events. Sessions may include:

• Approaching dermatology cases in a general practice consultation
• Dermatological history-taking and lesion description
• Skin cytology and microscopy
• Otoscopy and management of otitis
• Skin scrapings, hair plucks and trichograms
• Allergy and atopic dermatitis
• Infectious and parasitic skin disease
• Autoimmune and immune-mediated dermatological conditions
• Dermatopathology
• Dermatology career pathways, internships and residencies
• Interactive case discussions, quizzes and clinical challenges

We understand that veterinary school is busy, so there is no minimum attendance requirement. Members can attend the sessions that interest them and fit around their academic and clinical commitments. We hope all of the events will be intriguing enough for everyone to join! 

The first talk you attend will be free, so please feel welcome to come along for a taster session and invite your friends. After that, annual membership is £8, which will help fund practical materials, refreshments, prizes for quizzes and interactive sessions, and future club activities.

Whether you are seriously considering a career in dermatology, want to improve your confidence with common skin and ear cases, or just want to meet other students with similar interests, we would be delighted to have you involved.
