Zoological Society (Zoo Soc)

Interested in Exotics? Love to give back to wildlife and want to be involved with conservation? Want more experience handling the weird and wonderful animals you might meet in practice? RVC Zoological Society (aka ZooSoc) is the society for you!

As one of RVC’s largest societies and the winner of Best Event of the Year 2025-2026 (for our extremely popular ZSL London Zoo trip), we’re here to offer RVCs students an experience in the exotics field to supplement their interests and show off the wild side of the veterinary world.

Throughout the year, we will be hosting events and fundraisers for this year's chosen charity. Last year, we raised funds for Prickles & Paws Hedgehog Rescue through a variety of fun events - please check out their website if you're interested in learning more!

Among some of our most loved events include: veterinary physiotherapy workshops with the Bristol Zoo Project and UoB, falconry live practical, post-mortem practicals with University of Cambridge, shooting/darting practicals, exotic clinical rounds through BVZS and Beaumont Animal Hospital, trips to various zoos across the UK and so so much more!

And what’s more – we’ve got loads of free online learning opportunities and we organise talks on everything from raptor rehabilitation to tropical fish medicine with experts in their fields. Make sure to check out our Instagram pages for 'upcoming events' to keep up to date with what we're planning monthly.

What we're working on adding and continuing this year:

  • handling practicals with tons of exotic species
  • discussions with experienced students regarding how to get into exotics
  • a database of AHEMS and EMS placement opportunities that meet the RVC and RCVS requirements
  • frequent interactive online case studies with clinicians from both the BVZS and the Beaumont
  • an RVCZS Symposium with presentations from our members about their amazing work in the research field

If you’d like to join and are interested in wildlife, exotics, and learning – you can always find us online: @rvczoologicalsociety on Instagram and RVC Zoological Society on Facebook.
Or, of course, drop us an email at zoosoc@rvc.ac.uk (we promise, we’re friendly)!
