Candidate for the position of Vice President Representation & Communications

LEEANN SEASTRUM

Communication (and food) is key to everything. It helps break down barriers that we all face.

Well lets see most of you know me as the person that feeds you. Ranging from pizza to muffins and pancakes for breakfast. If I find a way I will always try to provide food for people. Oh wait can’t forget about wine night in Camden spoiler for those who couldn’t make it there was about 10 different types of cheese and a chocolate fountain. Enough with the food talk I will tell you a little more about myself besides me trying to fatten people up.

I am a second year BVetMed student that is a very outgoing person and likes to communicate with people, hence the reason why I like to feed people. I would like to take this opportunity to widen my knowledge and skills by being the Vice President of representatives and communication. In doing so, I would be gaining more expertise within the field leading me to be able to use the skills in my future (just like anyone really going for any of these positions).

Even though I am in uni I currently write emails and blogs for the veterinary hospital that I worked for full time before coming to uni. Currently I am the SAVMA Camden representative and organize events. When I am in charge of some events such as the AHEMS panel, wine night, and morning munch. I advertise for these via Facebook, email while keeping up with communication within our organization to ensure the event goes flawlessly. We recently have activated our Instagram account so we will be communicating more on that event as well. I would like to put into practice my knowledge of our uni and make sure that people are heard and censored when needed.  It would be a challenge for me but one that I would like to adventure on, widen my skills and put my knowledge to use.
There are other things that I would like to look different methods of how wer are represented. Not only in our uni but the community around us too. I know of other groups and representative that are trying to improve the communication for new students coming in I would defiantly want to help implement a way help during that confusing time. Even with confusion of moving from the Camden to the Hawkshead campus communicating better may help decrease the stress that is involved. Changing from one year to the next can always bring rise to new concerns that communicating with others will help alleviate stress.

There is always a way to improve on communication between lecturers and students. New building renovations have been a huge topic of discussion recently.  The year group representatives have been trying to help convey even if it doesn’t seem to get anywhere they are always fighting for you. I would like to help facilitate with these adventures. Each year group have their own questions and concerns and as the role of Vice President representative and communication I would make sure your voice is heard helping your year group representatives. Anything that can be done even if it is a small step in the right direction. So vote for me and I will probably also figure out a way to feed you or just make sure that everyone is aware of who is giving away free food or other fun events that maybe going on!
