For many of us coming to the RVC has been a life changing experience, for a multitude of reasons. Regardless of what course you are on or what route you took to get here it wont have been without its challenges, but as many of us well know the challenges don’t stop once we arrive at the gates of RVC.
Ensuring that ALL students feel they are being given the necessary support to thrive during their time at Uni and beyond is something that I am passionate about and prepared to fight for!
Now is the time for CHANGE!
Whether it be health, mental-health, faith, relationships, study or finance, I believe that it is imperative the RVC, with the help of the SU offers a strong and robust support network that students can easily and confidentially access to obtain practical as well as the emotional help and advice.
If elected I will ensure:
- Divisions within our university, which our students feel need to offer enhanced support, are addressed, this includes surveying students to find out if are advice center is providing the necessary support and if not working with the university to address this.
- I will actively engage with the National Students Union, Student Finance & charities such as Vet Life and and other umbrella bodies to ensure our student voices are heard at the highest level on matters of student welfare.
- I will ensure RVC students have 24/7 access to leave confidential comments regarding issues and suggestions via the use of an online “concerns box” and ensure comments are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Often when we face challenges we can end up feeling isolated and don’t always end up getting the help we need, I will make sure the welfare team at the RVC are proactive in reaching out and engaging with students who are most in need of support.
- If elected I also plan to run a number of TED style talks in response to student surveys on everything from psychology and personal growth to success in the veterinary industry and beyond.
I will continue the great work of our past Presidents in organising wellbeing campaigns such as #itsOK, our much loved puppy parties and BeKind events.
In order for the student body to be assured that the welfare team are delivering on their promises we will publish a monthly newsletter with a “You said / We did” column.
My aim is to ensure that the RVC is a place that EVERY student feels like they belong, that we go forward as a community that look after our own, and place where you know you will find someone to turn to in good times and bad.
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider my application!
