Name: Danny Whatman
Known As: Danny
What are you most looking forward to this year? This year, I am most looking forward to my role as Camden Officer in the new SU Team and also running my Rounders and Dodgeball Society... I hope to see you there ;)
What's your top recommendation for students to get involved during their time at Uni? I definitely recommend trying out as many societies as you can to find the ones for you, do not forget that there are LOADS so have a little look on our SU website, its not all sports! And get stuck in with all of the events, its the best way to make a lot of new friends, especially those not in your year 🙂
Favourite Animal: Large Animals generally... but if I HAD to pick, it would be Cows
Hobbies/Interests: Conservation, Reading, Running (Esp in a rounders game), Roblox and Netflix
Fun Fact: I have trained Giraffes (To present for vet procedures and check ups, not to sit or roll over)
Danny on his role:
Being the RVCSU Camden Officer is all about being a familiar face on the Camden Campus and to provide a channel for feedback for Camden students. The Camden Officer works and collaborates with the rest of the SU team to ensure that the voices of Camden students are heard in planning meetings for SU events, and to ensure that they get as much opportunity as those at Hawkshead campus do.
I have enjoyed my time as Camden Officer as I have got to meet so many new people, especially at freshers fair. Being able to be the representative of the whole Campus in meetings and ensure that the decisions the SU make are fully student focused is such a vital role. I have really enjoyed being able to network with staff and have an impact within the university which is an opportunity you would not get elsewhere.
The reason I went for the Camden Officer role is because I felt that there was a lot of Hawkshead focus in the things that the SU ran, and I felt that someone needed to be able to advocate for the other half of the student population. Bringing more events into Camden is something I am proud of. I also wanted to be a part of the SU because it is something so unique to put on your CV and shows that you are a person with drive and a varied skillset.
